Where this comes from
I've been doing devotionals since I was in high school. It started with text messages — a word sent to people, something for them to hold onto for the day. I kept it going through college, and I never stopped. All through my adult life, the messages kept going out.
That's where these devotions come from. Some are sayings. Some are things I heard that stayed with me. Some are things I was given to create. But they were never written for a shelf. They were written for somebody's day — most of the time, on the very day they needed it.
Why a living devotional
Most devotional books are finished before you ever open them — written in the past, printed, and done. There's nothing wrong with those books. But we don't live in a slow world anymore. Life is coming at people right now, faster than a book can be printed, faster than waiting for the next one to come out.
So this book isn't finished — it's alive. When a word comes today, it can go out today, while life is happening, not after. You don't have to wait a year to read what was given this morning. This book grows day by day — a living devotional, by Prince, from God.
The vessel and the source
Let me be clear about my place in this: I'm just a vessel. He's the source.
A vessel doesn't create what gets poured into it. A vessel carries it, and pours it out where it's needed. God is the source of every word in this book — I'm just the one He trusted to carry it to you.
So when you read these pages, don't look at Prince. Look at where it came from.
